The OnStage Swing Band was started about 25 years ago when a number of Dance Band/Jazz musicians joined what was then the Savage Club and realised there were enough musos to form a Big Band.

About the event
In 2004 the Club toured the South Island and put on 6 concerts in 9 days, going as far South as Invercargill. A subsequent tour took in the West Coast. The Band has for some years played an outdoor concert at Summerset Village and has performed at combined picnics with the Jazz Club. The Band also plays at the annual Unity Singers Charity Concert and opens the OnStage monthly concert on the 2nd Monday of each month. Although some founding members of the Band are still playing, Musical Director Alan Horsfall has seen the focus of the band move to encouraging young musicians to play the swing style the band is known for.
