Lauren Ellis Quartet

17 October 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

After a long stint in the US, drummer, Lauren Ellis is returning to Aotearoa for her first tour with her Los Angeles-based quartet. Regarded by her mentor, the great Peter Erskine as “one of the finest drummers and musicians on the scene right now”, Ellis has been making big strides in the Los Angeles music community over the last 3 years, honing her craft and working alongside some of the best in the jazz field. This concert will feature original contemporary jazz material by Ellis, a cumulation of pieces she has worked on over the last few years, drawing upon new creative influences and experiences while living and studying in one of the most diverse music scenes in the world.

This performance will not only explore original material by Lauren but also music by members of her group. Featuring some of Los Angeles’ most in-demand musicians, whom are all band leaders and composers in their own right, this is surely a night not to be missed!

Featuring Nicole McCabe (alto saxophone), Michael Orenstein (piano), Jermaine Paul (bass), and Lauren Ellis (drums).

As part of this project, the quartet will be presenting a free masterclass before the show. This will be an opportunity to learn more about jazz music and how to play it, as well as a chance to have questions answered by the group. There are no pre-requisites to attend, all are welcome.
