Friday June 02, 8.00pm Blues Nights - Lady Sings the Blues.
The Manawatu Jazz Festival is thrilled to present Lady Sings the Blues. Four singers with varied styles and fun in mind!
They are backed by the stellar Richard Te One (Drums) Elliot Fuimaono, (Bass) Nick Granville (Guitar) and Michael Crawford (Keys).
The ladies singing the blues are: Erna Ferry - Carol Bean - Lauren Armstrong - Julie Lamb
The irrepressible wonder, Erna Ferry. Most recently much of Erna’s time has been taken up performing with Rodger Fox and his bands. It’s really cool to get to steal her away! Press calls Erna vivacious and sparkling, true story… but she is also warm, engaging, and the ultimate professional.
The internet says that Carol Bean is amongst our fine women of rock...sassy, seductive… vibrant, earthy. She learned guitar from Ry Cooder. Carol gets more invites to join bands than there are fish in the
sea - a tribute to her brilliance and supportiveness. She tells the best stories and injects positivity into every show. Audiences and musicians get that vibe!
Lauren Armstrong is engaging! She combines the worlds of jazz and burlesque in a style reminiscent of Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday, a Wellington icon working with luminaries in the NZ Jazz scene. Lauren also has impeccable style, perfect posture, a smiling, sunshine personality that encompasses and flows out to her audience, whether it’s over lunch or on a stage. Lauren is a fabulous vocalist with big ears and a wide smile that just makes you feel better.
Julie Lamb says- I'm really looking forward to this gig - it puts me in my happy place singing to music lovers, with awesome talent at a brilliant festival that supports music – the Manawatu Jazz Festival is surely one of those... We look forward to seeing you at this one!
